Founder

Ethan Rhee is a high school senior from California. During his freshman year, he started the Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Podcast on Spotify after hearing stories about antibiotic resistance from his parents who are in the healthcare industry. He learned that by 2050, antibiotic resistance will lead to more deaths than cancer. He created a youth advisory board that collected used contacts and packaging to recycle them at Bausch & Lomb recycling centers after he learned that microplastics could contribute to spreading antibiotic resistance. Ethan’s work with the ARA Podcast has allowed him to network and collaborate with health experts who have global reach such as One Health Trust, SAS Africa and CARB-X. He has been selected to participate in the Johns Hopkins Global Health Leaders Conference for summer 2023. He is an AMR Insights Ambassador committed to raising antibiotic resistance awareness with the global community of stewards. He was research intern at the UCI Beckman Laser Institute studying biophotonic technologies as non-invasive imaging tools for the biology of the skin. He attended the Yale Young Global Scholars program in summer 2024 and completed a two-week capstone project in Solving Global Challenges. He also repairs broken ceramics through the sustainable art of Kintsugi and has exhibited his works at the annual OC Maker Faire that attracts over 3000 attendees. He is an avid baseball player and his varsity team won the 2024 CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championships: read about Ethan’s performance in the CIF Playoffs.
